Agriculture of Bangladesh

Written by Tahmina Akter

I am Tahmina Akter. I have tried to write on the agricultural side of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is an agricultural Country. Sixty percent of her total land is under Cultivation. Our country soil is very fertile and suitable for Cultivation. Bangladesh has great natural advantages. Our soil gets enough sunshine, air and water. 45% of our total people live by agriculture. Jute and paddy are the two main agricultural products of our country. Paddy is our main food and jute is our cash crop which brings a plenty of foreign money for our country. Here also grow wheat, sugarcane, tobacco and potato, brinjal, garlic, carrot, bean, reddish, pumpkins, eggplants etc. Many kinds of vegetables also cultivate on some parts in our country. Our farmers work hard but they get very poor return. Our most of the farmers are poor and illiterate. They cannot buy better seeds, good manure and insect killer. Scientific methods of cultivation are needed to implement on our agriculture. Farmers should be trained about the modern method of cultivation and the use of manure and insecticides. Irrigation facilities should be available to them. In short and long term loans should be given to them. Our government has already taken various programs for farmers to cultivate in a proper way. All programs for the improvement of our agriculture have been developing day by day. We hope that our farmers will be self-sufficient in near future. Our agriculture has an important roll in the economy of our Country. That’s why we should develop our agricultural side. Readers, I have just tried to explain my point of view on Agriculture of Bangladesh. So, please consider my mistakes as a new writer.

Hello!

Congratulations for your blog related about agriculture! I read your creative works and it’s impressed me much. As I am student of Agriculture, I will inform you little bit information related present agriculture situation of Bangladesh should added in your writing.

First of all, paddy is not our staple food, its rice. And at present moment jute crop can’t provide a lot of foreign currency to our country.

You also mention that, they (Farmers) cannot buy better seeds, good manure and insect killer. But at present status, farmer has sufficient money to buy all of these! But these products were not sufficient quantity in peak season of cultivation. I think you already heard or saw clash between farmers and fertilizer business men more or less every year in electronic or print media. They (fertilizer business men) create artificial crises of fertilizer!

Few days ago, World Bank published a report about Bangladesh and Millennium Development Goal (MDG). This report related blog and news you will find my website. In that report they said agriculture and rural sector of Bangladesh "neglect and underinvestment over the past 20 years” .So, you may understand how much development occurred in our agricultural sector!

But, I again say your writing (Blog) is excellent. And I also invite you to visit my website (http://asandhi.googlepages.com). You will get some agriculture related info from there.

Have a nice day!
