Lonely alone mother

Translated by Nilufa Parvin
Written in Bengali: Shahida Islam Mony

It seems to me very lonely, alone
I can’t realize why I feel so.
Life is very multifarious,
At times it is colored, again colorless
Why I feel so?
How sweet the people of the earth are!
How sacred they are!
But somewhere unholiness, vulgarity are concealed.
Mother cannot keep her child in the vicinity of her
Child cannot drop tears, keeping head on their mother’s chest
What a dalliance of god is!
Who knows?
Can you tell when, how this impertinence, misery will be removed?
Cause of this failure is that I am a mother?
Have I no power to keep my child in my neighborhood?
Law! It is also in opposite with mother in this country.
It seems to that after a definite age,
There is no right to live child with their mother.
How insufferable, ridiculous the incident of earth is!
The mother who doesn’t know law,
The mother who can’t become rebel,
She also misses her child.
So it should occurs that child of all mothers being mislaid
And to fill mother’s heart with loud lamentation.
What’s the benefit if I struggle?
What’s the gain if I glowing my chest with tears?
Who needs to go away he will depart,
Who likes to come back he will return,
But mother’s are groaning, weeping with her rending heart…
It’s only for mother
This silently abandoned alone shed tears only for mother
This is not for others.

Bird of the baby girl

Translated by Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Bithi Rahman

The baby girl says – O cowboy, playing flute
Under the banyan tree
Have you seen my bird
That flew away?

The cowboy says – Playing flute at a lonely place
I have not seen your bird
Where it fled from the cage.

Baby says – All the noon I looked for it
Roaming around the wood
Has my bird fled for ever?
Will it never come back?

Cowboy says – The bird comes from the wood
Does it look good in the cage?
Bird of the wood has flown to the wood
Let her fly away.

Baby says – This cannot happen
If she is not with me
How shall I spend my time?
I loved her, fed her
Keeping in the cage
Wanted to teach her my words.
Leaving everything, where has she fled
All alone I am looking for her.

Cowboy says- Men will live with men
The bird has its wings
Will fly far away
Go back home, baby
Leave her in the woods.

Behind the screen

Translated by Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Afiya Akter

Why are the men born
Why do they die,
Why these games and funs
Why destruction?

Why do men hope and aspire
Why do they destroy?
O, the sky weeps
In the name of rains.

Why does the mountain pour water falls?
In heartless pains,
Why is a man alone
In a crowd of kins?

The village bride

Translated by Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Bithi Rahman

The new bride in her veils moves to bring water,
Looks on the path with her lovely black eyes.
Sweet smile on the shy lips
The palace of dream seems to be within reach.
With a flower in her lock of cloudy hair
She walks along the village path on her golden feet.
No gold ornament in her body, still she shines.
The mother-in-law is like her mother; so she says
Let not the sun spoil your golden body.
Still she has to go to the pond to take bath
She is proceeding with a pitcher on her lap.
Also she will cook the items of her choice.

Wake up, woman

Translated by Kazi Rafiqul Islam
written in Bengali by Afroza Akter Kazol

Wake up, you woman

Wake up and be angry

Wake up and you will see everything

Your anger will give you everything.

Do not remain timid anymore

You have to be bold this time

Here goes the saying

People fear the strong and dominate the weak.

You will not be dominated any more

You have to wake up

You have to struggle to survive.

Only then you will be respected by the male dominated society.

Do you know woman, you are a human being made of flesh and blood?

Why, then you remain like a wooden doll?

You have to live; you have to laugh with an open mind.

Don’t think you are too small

Rather think you can do everything

Only then you can build up your life.

Woman

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Shahida Islam Mony

O woman, at times you are mother
Wife, sister or beloved at times.
You have filled the world
With love and affection.
But what did you get
With all these sacrifices?
Just once ask yourself
You will get the reply.
You are blank, alone, you are incomplete
Because you are a Bengalee woman.
Tears in your eyes
Shut your eyes
And feel from the core of your heart
Laments, laments and laments only.
Still you are a woman
You have to endure silently everything.
Then why observe this Women’s Day?
Come on woman, stand upright
Now is the time to protest.
No longer will you be the victim of slavery.
No more tears in the eyes
Not any more laments
Keep protesting o woman
And break the silence.
We are not helpless; no more will we remain slaves
Chant slogans, march forward on this Women’s Day.

Woman’s rights

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali:
Afroza Akter Kajol

We are women, we are able
To do everything
We will not sit idle, helpless and repressed.
Why women will remain deprived of education?
They are the half of the society
Without them the society is paralyzed.
Women have to wake up
They have to think themselves free
They do not want negligence any more
They want dignity and honor.
Men and women both are human beings
Why the men do not realize?
Why in today’s society
Women are still slaves?
Women can also take the lead
Side by side with men
If the women sit idle
The society will not proceed
So women have to be given
Equal rights to that of men
Women can build up
They can conquer the world
Women now realize
They can do everything

Expectation

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Afiya Akter

Things that have happened
Nothing to fear about
I am only worried about
The things that are yet to happen.
I don’t know what will happen
I tremble in fears
Still I can see
Some rays of hope.
O world! From you
I have some expectations.

Tree

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Hazera Akter Sherin Sheela

Tree is a great friend
No confusion about that
Without any benefits
It engages in the welfare of mankind.
Because of the tree we are living
The earth still survives.
Plant trees as many as you can
Save the earth from destruction
Take care of trees
If you fell one, plant two.
Only then the earth will be a land of greens
Habitable to human beings.

Independence

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Sufiya Khatun

O appearance of our independence
Memories of those nine months
Are implanted in our hearts.
We will ever remember you
Again we have met
On this day of 16th December.
Wherever we stay
We will not forget you
Because this day is
The day of joyful independence.
If God favors us
We will never forget you
Because, only for you
The valiant boys of Bangladesh
Sacrificed their blood
On the lap of Mother Bangladesh.
Stains of blood are still
On her dress
Memories have not disappeared
From our life.
Our independence will be fruitful
When we will not fear to tell the truth.

Bird of freedom

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Farzana Akter

What is your name, o bird? Please tell me.
I love to hear it again and again.
How do you look, o bird?
Red, blue or shaded
How is your voice?
How is your shape, size?
Are you a bird of freedom?
Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! Definitely you are.
You are made of the bloods
Of millions of brothers, mothers and sisters.
Nine long months we waited for you.
You are the source of our happiness.

Dream

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Sufiya Khatun

People say dreams become reality sometimes.
I say dreams are only dreams
They are never real.
Still people love dreams
Still their eyes are full of dreams.
I dream of getting hold of that moon on the sky
I dream of getting near the sun.
In my dreams, I want that golden deer
Which I have kept in my bosom so long.
But, will that be ever realized?
Still people love dreams
Still their eyes are full of dreams.

On the way to death

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Laily Jahan Meghla

I am alone, I am helpless
Please stand by me
Days of my life are numbered.
Don’t leave me alone
I am on the verge of my end.
I will leave; no one will be with me
No one will come to see me
I will go, where no one will disturb me.
At the fag end of my life do not hurt me
Please come and stand by me.

Mosquito

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Ruma Akter

A tiny animal
Mosquito is its name
It disturbs so much
No one can sit in peace.
Whenever children get ready for studies
Mosquito comes up to sting them
Mosquito, the wicked makes the life hell
Sucking our blood
Mosquito feels happy.

Domestic life

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Hazera Khatun

A boy, a girl dream
Of a home of their own
A small home with a big courtyard
Loiter around in a happy mood.
No conflict, no feud
The home will be a heaven to them.
They will live in that heaven
This is their aspiration
The home will be a den of happiness.

Mother

Translated by: Kazi Rafiqul Islam
Written in Bengali: Hazera Khatun

I don’t know where to place you, mother
When I see you, when I remember you
I portray you with my deepest desire.
Mother, o mother, why are you so big?
Why is your heart so large?
Why are you so liberal, mother?
Has this made you contain so much love
In your heart?
Love – which no one else in the world can contain.

A Memory Tale

Zannat Ara Amzad Liva

Today I just remember him,
Remember of those days,
Remember about his holding hand,
His eyes;

I remember of those days,
When his heart used to feel,
And love same as mine

I also remember of those days,
When two people
Used to walk by holding their hands;

I will never forget those days.

I Miss You A Lot !!!

By Sherin Sultana

You are engaged with me in different ways. So.......

I miss you at the cool morning, exhausted noon and the quite night.
I miss you when my mind fills with pleasure.
I miss you when I wish to go out for a walk.
I miss you when Krishnochura blooms.
I miss you when I wish to make a rickshaw ride.
I miss you at the moon-lit-night when I desire to gossip.
I miss you when it rains. I miss you when I sit on soft grass.
I miss you when I look at the enormous sky.
I miss you when I ride on a rickshaw.
I miss you when I make a long journey by bus.
I miss you at Pohela Falgun, Pohela Boishakh and on Valentines Day.
I miss you if I fall in any bad situation.
In the bus, if anyone tries to sit close to me, then I miss you so much.
If I fall in any big problem but I can’t solve that and if I expect help from others then I miss you.
I miss you when I see a couple.
I miss you when I feel sad.
I miss you when I become sick.
I miss you when I feel lonely.
I miss you when I stay alone.
I miss you when I close my eyes.
I miss you also at the time of joys and sorrows.

I feel you so much so that I miss you in every time and every moment.
I want to know - do you feel me in the same way? I wish you feel me.

The Prosperity of Life

Written by Tahmina Akter

If you are a sympathetic man,
You will be successful in your life.

If you love and help to helpless people,
You will get blessings from GOD.

If you are a truthful person,
You will be famous in the world.

If you want love,
Then you will have to love to all the people of the world.

If you want to remain forever,
You will have to be honest

If you are kind to others,
You will prosper in your life.

If you can make happy to all people,
You will be happy in your life.

If you are a noble man,
You will be popular in the world

If you help people,
God will help you.
